Welcome to the Barrkudos site my name
is Christine Barrell and my hobby is breeding and showing the Persian cat for
over the past 20 years. I live in a town called Ipswich which is on the
South East coast of Britain.
I'm married with 2 grown up
children, also now a Grandma, and my love of all animals has always played a huge part in my
life. I first fell in love with the Persian 20 years ago and am still just
as passionate about them as I ever was. I adore the Smokes and the
Cameo colours so it was a natural choice to breed these along with
the associated self colours. I have recently decided to add the
bi/tri colour to Barrkudos (2006). Moving forward I have begun to breed bi/tri smokes which is proving to
be successful. The bi/tri smoke breed policy has now
been approved by GCCF and all kittens can be registered from June 08 and
can go onto the show bench from June 2009. Barrkudos cattery is
also registered with TICA as they do recognise the bi
smokes and attended my first Tica show in Sept 07 which I thoroughly
enjoyed and look forward to the next show.
I decided to introduce a few solid
bred cats with pure solid lines including pure dilute pedigrees (3,5,13) not only to increase the gene pool
of the smoke, but also to breed a few solid pedigree kittens.
I have also recently bought in a silver tabby male in to the Barrkudos cattery
who will be
included in a new breed programme with my bi colours and bi smokes in the hope that
this will produce some silver tabby/white kittens.
Please note that the breed
standards of each different colour eg patched, smoke, cameo are closely
followed at Barrkudos to ensure a good pedigree. In addition to this
their well being and good health is vital and is always first and
foremost.
I love showing my cats and have
enjoyed reasonable success on the show bench over the years achieving
several Grand Championship and Championship titles for the Barrkudos and
other prefix's. In 2002 I made the decision to scan my cats
for PKD which turned out to be a very long and soul destroying journey
which took over 3 years to come through, but a very worthwhile one as
all my breeding cats are now F.A.B. P.K.D. neg. I
am also P.K.D D.N.A
testing several of my cats to ensure their status.
Initially I had several cats that
scanned positive so they were all neutered and i only have one still with
me living happily in retirement, unfortunately I have lost some over the
past 6-7years to this awful disease which is absolutely heartbreaking
to watch. I have lost cats as young as 18months through to the
grand age of 14years old but no cat should have to suffer this painful
death when we can eradicate it by using only
PKD NEG CATS FOR BREEDING.
All my kittens are lovingly reared
indoors in the nursery (my bedroom) then into their own room until the inoculations
are given, then are allowed the run of the house
and are bought up as part of the family. Some times after
retiring my girls from breeding they are available for adoption.
Although my passion is to breed and
show these gorgeous creatures to the highest standard the love I have for my cats is
always paramount.
